The CNRP launched a campaign yesterday
CNRP lawmaker Son Chhay said banners showing Mr Sokha waving from a vehicle in 2013 and the slogan, “President Kem Sokha: Immediate and Unconditional Release”, would be displayed across the nation.
“We have started to put banners of Kem Sokha in every party office, in all provinces, and we will consider spreading these out to district levels,” Mr Chhay said.
“When there is injustice, the natural reaction is to advocate against it,” he added. “Mr Sokha’s immediate release is our objective.”
Prime Minister Hun Sen has threatened the dissolution of the CNRP if it continues protecting Mr Sokha, who stands accused of colluding with the US to topple the ruling CPP government.
“If the party continues to protect this traitor, this is treason,” Mr Hun Sen said. “If the whole party conspires for treason, then that party could be dissolved.”
However, Mr Chhay said the arrest of Mr Sokha was illegal, and noted he remains innocent until proven guilty.
“As long as he remains innocent we still have a chance to advocate for his release,” he said. “The court has not yet found Mr Sokha guilty, so our advocating is legal. We don’t want to see the law implemented wrongly again and again.”
Mr Chhay said members of the CNRP will attend Mr Sokha’s Appeal Court bail hearing today, to ensure it is fair.
