The Vital Lessons Stranger Things Learned from Lost and Game of Thrones

1There’s still a lot of time left

before Stranger Things fans get to go back to the Upside Down, but things are already ramping up. More stills from Season 2 have emerged as the show’s cast and crew sat down with Entertainment Weekly to discuss the show’s upcoming second chapter, which is due for release in October. From their interviews, an interesting pattern has emerged: this show seems to be learning a lot from series that came before it

—particularly fellow overnight hits like Lost and Game of Thrones.

Sometimes a mega-hit can go downhill if it runs for too long. Consider Lost, which captivated audiences in its first few seasons on ABC but slowly became convoluted—and said goodbye with one of TV’s most controversial conclusions. From what Mattand Ross Duffer told E.W., Stranger Things, by contrast, will probably keep things short and sweet.

“I want it to have a really finite ending,” Matt Duffer said. “I don’t want it to be one of those shows that runs out of gas and they lose it, because they’re losing interest.
