Hill, said Tuesday that it will double its security and safety workforce to 20,000, including contract workers, according to Bloomberg.
The social media giant made the promise while testifying before Congress about how its platform was used to spread propaganda from Russian accounts in the run-up to the 2016 U.S. presidential election.
The general counsels from FacebookAlphabet's Google and Twitter are in Washington, D.C. this week to testify in front of lawmakers, who are seeking to understand the extent and methods of Russia's interference in the U.S political system.
“We need to understand the behavior and we need to have the capacity both as a company and as an industry to be able to track it and eradicate it,” FacebookGeneral Counsel Colin Stretch told senators. The new hires would focus on tracking extremist behavior on the site, he said.
