Campaign to preserve Shenandoah County landscape asks community for help

"Save the Knob" is a campaign to buy and

a

preserve the mountain knob of 137-acres that overlooks the town of Mt. Jackson. Once the land is purchased by The Conservation Fund, an environmental nonprofit in Arlington, the organization wants to donate it to the U.S. Forest Service.

In August, the group had secured $25,000 from a private donor in northern Virginia and asked the Mt. Jackson town council for $50,000.

According to Kim Woodwell, the executive director of Shenandoah Forum, Mt. Jackson has pledged $15,000, and if the community raises $10,000 by the end of the year, Mt. Jackson will pledge another $10,000 in grant money. This would bring the campaign very close to its goal.

Shenandoah Forum, a local organization, is working to help reach out to the community and raise $50,000 to close the fundraising gap. Leaders with the group say this piece of land is crucial for many reasons.
