Temple schools are trying to find effective
Assistant Superintendent Bobby Ott told the board of trustees Friday that the district wants to avoid replacing older teaching methods with new technology, instead using “blended learning,” a combination of online approaches and traditional methods.
Temple Independent School District funded an initiative to give every high school student a Chromebook through its Tax Ratification Election in 2013. The TRE also funded additional technology for lower grade levels.
“Our goal in TISD is to transform and enhance instruction,” Ott said. “And the reason why is because of ... employer and college expectations — these are changing. The employers and the workplaces — they’re all changing.”
Colleges and universities are changing the way they teach students as technology improves as well, Ott said, and businesses frequently use online teaching techniques for industrial training.
