Jason Anglin, who was hired in June 2010 to run Memorial Medical Center said he is optimistic about the hospital's future.
Since Anglin took the reins as chief executive officer, he helped bring in new medical services to Calhoun County and opened a freestanding medical clinic.
But he said his recent focus is on upgrading technology.
The hospital purchased a new 3-D mammogram machine and is installing a new CT machine.
"We've definitely jumped ahead of the game," said Farah Janak, the hospital's diagnostic imaging director.
A new state law goes into effect Jan. 1, which requires commercial insurers to cover the cost of 3-D mammograms.
Patients had been paying about $100 out-of-pocket for the advanced images that allows for early detection and fewer false positive results.
"You get a very clear image," she said, adding that patients find the new machine more comfortable, too.
Just two months after Hurricane Harvey, the 25-bed hospital near the coast continues to work toward recovery.
"I felt like we were very prepared," Anglin said. "We were back to normal pretty quickly."
